Posted by WAM NY Marketing Committee Name: Rabia Moazzam Khan Position: Manager Employee Engagement-HRD at KASHF Microfinance Bank Ltd, Pakistan Training Attended: “Facilitation & Training Approaches for Community Change” at COADY International Institute, St. Francis Xavier University, Nova Scotia, Canada Snapshot of my experience at COADY: WAMNY scholarship platform provided me a great learning opportunity, and it was indeed a diverse and enriching experience. Interaction with 120 professional participants from more than 70 countries globally gave me outstanding exposure, and I deeply felt the world around me. Different faiths and religions, multi-cultures, mix of languages, pools of development leaders and experiences sharing are some highlights. I was proud to represent Pakistan, being the only participant from there. While daily going towards my classroom, I used to read and reflect on this inspiring quote by one of the COADY Leader from Egypt “Sometimes it is necessary to go half way around the world to see yourself” and on my last day of training, I smiled as I understood and experienced what this quote truly meant.... I have been trained on facilitation and training approaches for community change. I have learned different participatory training theories, acquired knowledge on new facilitation techniques, and enhanced my skills, especially on adult learning and population education methods. Class participation, assignments and final practicum at high school and university polished my training abilities in a 3-week program. I felt honored for giving a “Remarks Speech & Vote of Thanks” on Welcome Social Event, and was selected as a representative by the 2013 certificate participants. It was great to be on STFX campus full-time as a student, utilizing rich resources in library, as well as attending networking events and extra-curricular activities, such a sports and town festivals with my global fellows and new friends. One Word Statement: Learning at COADY was my best life time enriching experience, which also renewed my passion through engaging, energizing and empowering approaches. My one word is “ENCOURAGEMENT”… to believe in myself, to think, to learn, to reflect, to do, and to take action for change in communities for the improvement of others. Upon arrival at the office, I received a congratulations and appreciation note from my CEO-KMBL on my achievement of getting this scholarship award from WAM NY, as well as on the successful completion of this intensive training at COADY. Thank you WAMNY, for investing in me and in other women globally through your scholarship awards. These learning experiences are just like a roller-coaster ride to us, and have a much larger impact in the long-run, starting from ourselves, our families, our organizations and our communities. I am blessed by God and give a bundle of love to my family and friends who encouraged me and gave their support to achieve this milestone in my career and life.
